Welcome back to the podcast where we ask the question, what makes you happy?

 

My name is Jake Pearson. And today we have with us a sound therapist and holistic wellness practitioner who uses sound to help her clients feel more relaxed and balanced in their life. Mayara Souza from Tampa, Florida, but originally from Brazil, and moving back to Brazil very shortly. Mayara, how are you?

I'm doing great, Jake, thank you for having me.

 

Jake Pearson  00:53

No, it's a pleasure to have you, I'm looking forward to talking to you about all things that make you happy. What does make you happy?

 

Mayara Souza  01:00

Oh, man! I could talk about these for three hours. But let's try to comprise and do a quick talk in 5 minutes. So one of the first things that come to mind is nature, I absolutely love going out in nature and just observing all the beauty and observing the animals, the trees and everything. I could just spend like the whole day in nature, if I could, it does make me happy, like a lot. So that's the first thing that comes to mind. But there's so many things, you know, I have a 14 year old that she's very healthy, you know, mentally healthy, physically, emotionally. And I mean, just by watching her, you know, flow through life makes me so happy.

I love that. And so do you feel like you're just present and you're just observing, all the things that are happening around you is that sort of how you would describe your happiness when it comes to your daughter?

 

Mayara Souza  01:52

So I feel like I have a very good perspective on my reality, I guess-- We talked about this, like, if we put two people looking at the same situation, they will have two completely different perception of that same situation, I feel like I have a very good outtake in life. Because it's just like I say, by observing my environment, my surroundings, it makes me very happy, I tend to look at the good things that are happening in my environment. So for my daughter, like I said, I see her helping people, she volunteers and does the things that she does. And I just watched, I hear and I work with people that are struggling with their kids very, very young, already suffering with anxiety, depression, and all those things that as a collective, we are all going through, and I watch her and she's just satisfied with life, there is no anxiety, there is no depression. And it makes me so happy, makes me proud of her. But it also makes me like very happy, I feel good.

Thank you for sharing that. And a little bit about your happiness and your personal life. What would you say to our listeners who are struggling to find something that makes them happy in their life?

 

Mayara Souza  03:07

I feel like being present, the first thing that I brought up is like, when I'm present in nature, it just makes me so happy. So I would say just take some deep breaths, and try to just be present in the moment that you are in not allowing your mind to go wander in the past or worry about the future, none of that and just come to where you are and be there. I feel like there's so much happiness in the now, there's so many things that we, if we look around, we have to be grateful for.

I really resonate with that. And you know, one really easy example of being present for me is when I walk out onto the back porch, and a stand in the sun at the top of the stairs, and I drink a cup of coffee, and I just sit there and I just enjoy that. And I don't often think about anything else that is a good example of being present. And if you can find something in your life, where you can just be in that moment where the sun's on your face, or you're just being you without the past or the future. I think it ties into exactly what you've said there, isn't it?

Yes, that's a beautiful example. You're just being you know, you don't need to be doing anything, worried about anything but just be
