In this podcast episode of "What Makes You Happy", Jake Pearson interviews podcaster High Kiu about what brings him happiness. High Kiu says that his podcast, which focuses on young people's issues, reading novels, cooking, and helping others find solutions to their problems all make him happy. He also emphasizes that happiness is a state of mind and a decision one makes, not a physical thing that can be bought or owned. He encourages others to take control of their happiness and make the decision to be happy.

My name is Jake Pearson and today we have with us a Podcaster, High Kiu.
High Kiu 00:35
Hello, everyone. I'm good man. How you doing?
Jake Pearson 00:37
Super excited. Can you share a little bit about that for us, what makes you happy?
High Kiu 00:41
I mean, earlier, you mentioned that I was a podcaster and my podcast is primarily into young pressings. Getting to talk about the things that young people face and getting to discuss it and shed more light on it. Yes, that that makes me happy. That's one of the things that make me happy. Reading too. I'm so big on reading, I love reading the Hulu books and then, when I'm there, when I'm in the novel, or I was talking to a friend the other day, and I mentioned that I'd rather read a book than watch a movie.
The reason being that in the novels, it feels more real. You get to understand every part of the story you get to see from the bad guy and the good guys part and then you get to figure out how the story goes but then in the movie, they just paint one person as a good person, and you're a person as a bad person on how the good person is trying to eliminate the bad person. I don't know if you get what I'm saying but there.
Yes, so yes, reading two readings of novels are a whole different word for me and then, when I'm reading, I'm just there. I'm happy too.
Coking makes me happy. I like food. Yes, I like food a whole lot and I fancy trying out different recipes, and cooking in different ways, different manners. This are like, passed down recipes and then I'm like, trying it out in a whole different way and in a whole spectacular way that that alone brings joy to me. Yes, and it's a whole bucket list. I mean, but I don't have so much friends. I don't have so many friends. I particularly lost my best friend last year, say about this time. Yes, I'm feeling much better. I'm coming back and it's really huge but then I have a whole lot of people that talk to me about things. The-- You have issues, I'm like, the bigger brother to them. He-- I don't know if you think what I'm saying. So yes, helping them find solutions to those issues, you know, talking to them, helping them realize that they can be more in themselves.
They can realize more than they think I mean, probably have issues with schooling, they have issues we live, they have issues with their parents, they have issues with discovering themselves. I tried to make them see it from a different light, it might not be an issue, it might be a weakness, they are trying to make a strength literally. Yes, that's true. Makes me happy. I mean, it's a whole bucket list, man. It's a whole bucket list.
Jake Pearson 03:17
High Kiu, I really love that from you that you're despite of having gone through some stuff yourself, you're putting yourself out there to be the bigger brother and support other people and I'm glad that you find a little bit of joy and happiness. What advice could you give to them for someone who is struggling with happiness in their own life?
High Kiu 03:37
I just have to say that happiness is not it's not a thing is not something, is not physical, is not something you try to buy, is not something you're trying to own happiness is the state of the mind. I have, I have been in situations where there is so much trouble going on around me and I'm just there, and I'm deciding to be happy. Happiness is a decision. If you decide that you're just going to be happy, you just got to be happy. Just decide when that decision is there, the Happiness comes.
Jake Pearson 04:10
You're not the only one on this podcast that has gone along and then had that happiness is a decision and choice. So you're not alone in saying that.
High Kiu 04:18
Yes because I mean, if you don't decide to be you could even have so much joyful moments going on around you and you're not happy. You're just there being sad, in all of that going on around you. So if I decide that I'm going to be happy, happiness is going to be yours literally. Happiness is just waiting for you to decide. Yes and then it comes to you.
Jake Pearson 04:35
When you realize. I think that nobody else can make you happy the way you can make yourself happy and that you can create your own happiness. I think that's quite empowering and if you can get to that point in your life where you are in control of how you perceive the world around you and interact with the world around you and all look the negative events and still have a great perspective on life and just generally good outlook. I think happiness comes to you, and you take control.
High Kiu 05:09
Yes, it's as easy as that, literally.
Jake Pearson 05:11
