Tash Hanham 00:35
Great, thank you for having me here today, Jake!
Jake Pearson 00:38
I am super excited to have the chat with you. We've been pumping it up a little bit on Instagram stories and stuff. So it's building up the hype. Where are you coming from?
Tash Hanham 00:46
Well, I'm actually in Western Australia. And for those that are familiar with the state, I'm down in the southwest. So near the Margaret River region, I actually live in yelling up right near the coast. So we've got beautiful Bush block that's got kangaroos and kookaburras. And then we've got the ocean right near us. So loving life right now.
Jake Pearson 01:06
Sounds like a dream.
Tash Hanham 01:07
Yes, it is.
Jake Pearson 01:09
Does that tie into a little bit about what makes you happy in life?
Tash Hanham 01:11
It certainly does. And yes, something that we really strive for is being in a place that makes us happy. You know, being surrounded by nature is something that's really important to me and my family, I've got hubby and three kids. And we all love getting out into the bush, we love nature, we love the outdoors, and also have a really strong affinity for the ocean as well. So, for us, having a home that kind of reflects those values is really important. And also being small business owners, we do a lot of our work from home. So it's nice to be in a pretty inspirational setting to help to get those creative juices going.
Jake Pearson 01:49
When did you realize that you needed to be in a space that reflected what you wanted for your happiness?
Tash Hanham 01:54
I think we've always known that. And we did do some time in a house that was more around convenience, and it was a small property, didn't have a lot of space. And we thought, well, we can make this work, you know, and we were actually at the time saving to move overseas to a little island in the Pacific, which is actually where I'm from. And we try that and we also happen to coincide with all the big lockdowns in 2020. So we were trapped in a very small house with a very small footprint and no yard and three small children. And we realized very quickly that that was not for us. So some people make that work. And perhaps without the lock downs, it may not have been so bad. But you know, as everyone who's experienced the lock downs can make things pretty intense. And being in a very small place that wasn't particularly inspirational, really helped us to clarify, no, we need it-- we need to get out, we need a bit more space and a bit more around us.
Jake Pearson 02:54
So it's almost like looking at what you didn't want in life allowed you to get more clear on what you did want. And then you just chase that. And that's helped you find a little bit more happiness in your day to day.
Tash Hanham 03:04
Yes, and I think sometimes we do we like put off the idea of pursuing happiness, because we've got these conditions around it. So it's like, well until I get to this point, and then I'll be happy. Or maybe when I get to that job or when I reached that level of clients or when I-- And so there's all these conditions around happiness, but for me being happy and being able to find something that makes you happy every day. And if it's something as simple as loving where you live, which is a pretty simple thing. I think a lot of people can relate to that. That's something you can get right-- Right now, you can get that every day. And then I really do believe that helps to breed more happiness. Because I think when you're feeling that and you feel that gratitude, then you're able to see more around you that you're grateful for. And I really think that ties into happiness as well. Well, it certainly does for me.
Jake Pearson 03:53
I really love that. So would you say that everything you've just mentioned there about loving the space that you're in? And what you have in your current moment, is the advice you'd give to the listeners right now who are pursuing a little bit of happiness in their life.
Tash Hanham 04:05
Yes, absolutely. I think just sometimes starting with those little steps of just trying to find something in your life. And it's something that I really advocate for is around finding something that you're really grateful for, I actually do three things I'm grateful for every day as part of my journaling. Not everyone likes to journal, but I think you can just sit with it and just think about three things that you're really grateful for. And just try and embed that into your practice in terms of then that feeding into what makes you happy. And it doesn't have to be big stuff. I think people think, Oh, I've got to come up with something like massive, sometimes I just write down I'm really grateful for my hot coffee that served in my favorite cup. And you know, that's my thing I'm grateful for and then I just find another couple of things. So just doing that just helps to shift that mindset. And I really think does then help you to start focusing on what are some other things in my life that I'm grateful for and that I'm happy for.
Jake Pearson 04:58
